Marcus Davenport, a 17 year old living in Phoenix, Arizona, was found dead after an Xbox One allegedly ejected a game disc fast enough to slice his throat.
Like most boys his age, Marcus was an avid fan of video games who spent a lot of his free time dropping kill streaks in the latest Call of Duty. He was very active on gaming forums and had his own youtube channel where he posted videos related to his favorite hobby. One unfortunate night Marcus was having trouble getting the Call of Duty disc to eject from his Xbox One console. He became understandingly frustrated and started pounding on the console trying to see if he could get the disc dislodged. Sadly he was at the right position for when the disc ejected at an incredible speed and hit him right in the throat. He was launched at such a speed that he throat was lacerated and he bled out.
“My son loved playing his Xbox One. He was a good student in school so I had no problems with him playing the game as much as he wanted. He also had a Youtube channel dedicated to games. He made a decent amount of money from making videos so I thought he was being very productive. I never thought the game would kill him,” said Ms. Davenport. Ms. Davenport found her son around 3 a.m. in the mourning when she was going to check to make sure he wasn’t staying up all night. The paramedics arrived at 3:36 a.m. but it was too late. Though tragic this story seems too extraordinary that it’s just too hard to swallow.
