When meeting new people, you can only make one first impression on them. Others often get an overall sense of the new people they come across, but only one or two personality traits will end up standing out. Initially, these characteristics are the main things that other individuals have to rely on when learning about new people. Only later on, over time, are they able to figure out more about a person and truly get to know what they are actually like.
Every day life requires us to judge other people and situations we encounter, and then make choices based off of those judgments. We consciously and subconsciously evaluate other people and events by first going off of what our gut instincts are telling us about them. If someone makes you feel weird and raises your suspicions, then you often will choose to stay away from them. The opposite is true if a person seems all right and makes you feel at ease, then you likely will opt to get to know them better.
Because humans are so complex and emotive they often give off subtle cues and signs that can reveal a lot about who they are and what they may be thinking or feeling. Others pick up on these signals when they first encounter someone new, and use them to make snap judgments about the person and meeting. When it’s all said and done, people will usually sum up their impression of another person with one word that best describes them. These descriptive words may include quirky, original, outspoken, awkward, generous, rebellious, and so on.
