As the main organ of the nervous system, the human brain is responsible for functioning of the body and conscious thought. Memory, reflection, perception, language, movement and organ operation are all controlled by the neural tissue contained in, and protected by, the skull. The brain is divided into major regions, each of which work to perform different tasks. These specialized areas can vary in size from person to person and it has been found that people with larger sections of their brain have an increase of the applicable behavior.

This quiz defines personalities based on the size of several parts of the brain. The hypothalamus links the nervous and endocrine systems via the pituitary gland and is therefore responsible for hormonal and behavioral circadian rhythms causing association of the area with emotions. Alternately, the thalamus relays sensory and motor signals and regulates the spectrum of sleep and alertness and can define a person’s attention span .

A person’s amygdala forms and stores memories of emotional events, and controls the heart rate as well as the fight or flight response.  The hippocampus is important in learning as it consolidates information from short term memories to long term, and is the first area affected by Alzheimer’s disease. The temporal lobe processes visual input and recognizes language in order to create appropriately correlated emotion. The motor cortex plans, controls, and executes voluntary movements of the body, and as such is important for those who are very physically involved. Take the quiz to find out which part of your brain is dominant!
