Making a cake is no easy task. A heavy weighted pressure of having it taste delicious, wanting it to look beautiful, and it being witnessed by a crowd of people at a memorable event, create a tense couple hours of preparation for the novice baker. We’ve all seen pictures of cakes gone wrong when the maker had the best of intentions at heart. Specific designs and lettering come out incomprehensible or vulgar. The center of the cake falls into itself like a sinkhole or the whole thing is so lopsided that it is only a moment away from falling over.

But what about when everything comes out exactly how you imagined it? The cake could not be more perfect except that you now have to travel with your work of art and undoubtedly destroy it in the process. You don’t make cakes enough to have an actual cake carrying plate with a secured dome top for protection, or the one you got from your grandmother has a top that slides around like moving wall of sabotage in the back seat of the car.

Well, do you have some raw spaghetti? And simple plastic wrap? Good. Your cake career is saved. Stand four sticks of spaghetti into the top of the cake to form a basic square-like structure, and another four sticks poking out of each side of the cake like a wheel. Pull out a long piece of plastic wrap and cover the cake from one side to the other, with the plastic resting only on the spaghetti pieces. With a second strip of plastic, cover again at a 90 degree angle from the first piece, wrapping both pieces of plastic around the bottom of the plate. Now you’re cake is safely covered to be revealed upon arrival to the soiree, or even just stored for later.
